I am not speaking from immediate knowledge from anything that has happened today, but this telling quote from a New York Times article discussing the conflict over work from home:
“You can interrupt each other without being rude when you’re in person,” said Mr. [Manny] Medina, whose company, Outreach, is now in the office on a hybrid basis. “In a Zoom conversation, you have to let somebody finish their thought.”
I guarantee you that if someone were to interrupt him in a meeting, he would completely lose his sh%$.
He wants face to face meetings so that he can bully subordinates.
Letting people finish their thoughts means that they can FINISH THEIR THOUGHTS. Interrupting them, particularly as a boss, just shuts them down, and it is rude both in person and in a virtual meeting.
It's just that interrupting is a lot harder when one is not to face to face.
Also, Zoom meetings, even with issues with muting and screen displays are quicker, and take less time.
I should note here that I am not formally diagnosing Manny Medina with a personality disorder. I am an engineer, not a psychiatrist, dammit!*
*I love it when I get to go all Dr. McCoy!
