Their message to America: It’s not us, it’s you.
Canadians don’t see Trump’s America as merely an annoyance, the survey found. They consider the superpower next door the world’s greatest threat to peacetime.
Considering facts over the past few decades, this is not an unreasonable conclusion.
As you know, there was a mass school shooting in Canada, a country which has what could be described as sane gun laws.

At least half of the proposed names were Nazis, Waffen SS members, and their fellow travelers, and so they gave up trying to fix it.
It does seem that an a lot of people donating to this project via the Tribute to Liberty charity were objectively pro-Nazi.
Canada’s controversial Memorial to the Victims of Communism will not include the names of alleged victims of communism, per a statement from Canadian Heritage spokesperson Caroline Czajkowski.
Historians, journalists and other experts have warned since 2021 that a list of names submitted for commemoration on the monument included suspected war criminals, Nazi collaborators and members of wartime fascist groups.
“The Government of Canada has emphasized that all aspects of the Memorial to the Victims of Communism must align with Canadian values of democracy and human rights,” wrote Czajkowski in a statement. “The Wall of Remembrance will now solely feature thematic content that conveys the broader commemorative and educational intent of the Memorial.”
Czajkowski added that there is “no set timeline for the completion of the thematic content” and that the heritage department will continue to collaborate with project sponsor Tribute to Liberty “to ensure the Memorial remains a respectful and inclusive place of remembrance and reflection.”

Tribute to Liberty was responsible for preparing the list of alleged victims, which were compiled as part of a fundraising effort over several years.
The Maple reached out to the organization’s board chair, Ludwik Klimkowski, for comment, but received no response.
According to Czajkowski, Tribute to Liberty is expected to independently develop an educational program related to the monument.

August jobs report was brutal; only 22,000 new jobs, at least 125,000 to account for natural labor force
growth, and the June jobs report was revised to a negative number, -13,000.

Today is election day in the Great White North, and we will see if Donald Trump has screwed the pooch for the Conservative Party of Canada, and if there will be a backlash resulting in a Liberal Party victory as polls suggest.
I have no clue as to who this will go, but Canadians telling American journalists to f%$#-off, and then apologizing for it is a very strong reinforcement of stereotypes, at least for English speaking Canadians. (the Quebecois apologize for nothing)
I have to note that the Canadians count their votes by hand in one night, and we will probably know the general results by midnight.

For the first time in my life, I noticed a very strong nationalistic--even patriotic--feeling arise from coast to coast here in Canada. I was speaking with a good friend of mine yesterday, he's a bit older, he's been around like almost 20 years, longer than me, and we were talking about how generally Canadians are not the most patriotic people.
They're not as much keen to flag-waving or public displaying of their national pride, never as much as our southern neighbor anyway.
And that is especially true here in Quebec, where, as I mentioned before, the French-speaking Quebecers are most likely to identify as Quebecer before Canadian, if at all.
But even here, since those declarations, shocking declarations from Donald Trump, we've been noticing that patriotic Canadian pride take over people.
It's really unbelievable. Suddenly, like you're in a grocery store and you see that elderly lady wondering in French, reading the label on the mustard pot, like, "Was this made in Canada? If not, I'm not even buying it."
Personally, I first came to realize that there was something going on when I randomly came across some posts.

In completely unsurprising news, Chrystia Freeland has announced her cnadadicy to replace Justin Trudeau as the leader of Canada's Liberal Party.
I am not suggesting that Ms. Freeland is a Nazi, but I am saying that she has been a Nazi apologists, particularly with regard to her grandfather, and NeoNazis in the Ukraine.
Her finger prints are all over the placing of Nazi collaborators names on the "Victims of Communism" Memorial, the ongoing coverup of the specifics of admitting Nazi collaborators to Canada following WWII, and the public plaudits given a Ukrainian Nazi SS member in Parliament on live TV.
She is not the front-runner, that would be former Mark Carney, the former governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England.

A former journalist turned senior government minister – who was dubbed a “nasty woman” by Donald Trump after bruising trade negotiations with the US – has announced that she will run for leadership of Canada’s ailing Liberal party.
Chrystia Freeland declared her intention to become the next Liberal leader – and the country’s next prime minister – on Friday with a post on social media, with plans for a formal campaign launch in Toronto on Sunday.
“I’m running to fight for Canada,” she wrote.
Freeland triggered the current leadership race by resigning as the country’s finance minister last month after clashing with the prime minister, Justin Trudeau, over how to handle the looming threat of US tariffs. I am not sure how this will all shake out, and what the policy differences are between Freeland and Carney.

Meanwhile the pediatric RSV admissions were outpacing last year’s, as per the latest report of the Canadian Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Program. At the same time, influenza infections were ramping up.
In the fall of 2022, parents were told to blame “immunity debt” for the surge in children and youths’ respiratory infections. Immunity "debt" or "gap" was proposed to result from the lack of immune stimulation due to the reduced circulation of microbial agents and reduced vaccine uptake during the early years of the pandemic.

If indeed “immunity debt” is the result of too few infections, and lasts for years, would it follow that not only airborne but other mitigations should be avoided? This might seem like a good way to strengthen children’s immune systems -- were it not for the fact that we know what happens without hygiene: prior to 1850, before these advances in science and sanitation, roughly 50% of children died before their 15th birthday.

More and more evidence is accumulating that the virus damages our immune system, making us more vulnerable to future infections. Crucially, T cells, a class of white blood cells in our body that play a vital role in our body’s defence against other infectious diseases, are depleted and exhausted, even with mild COVID-19 infections. Some of this effect seems to come from the SARS-CoV-2 virus directly infecting these cells.
Simply put, COVID-19 infections weaken our immune systems. This makes us more prone to reinfection with SARS-CoV-2, infections with other viruses (e.g. RSV), reactivation of dormant viral infections (e.g. shingles, Herpes-Zoster virus), bacterial infections (Group A strep,TB) and even rare fungal infections. To make matters worse, the infections themselves may also be more severe. Being infected with SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses or bacteria at the same time can also make things worse, in adults as well as children.
It should be noted here that two of the three the authors of this OP/ED, Doctors. Lyne Filiatrault and Arijit Chakravarty are medical doctors, and the third, T. Ryan Gregory, is a PhD evolutionary biology.

I do not know a lot about Canadian politics, but just looking at the history of Canadian PMs over the past few decades, it does appear that 9 years in office appears to be pretty normal, so Trudeau's resignation as PM and party leader is not a surprise:

An organization calling itself the General Committee of United Croats of Canada purchased virtual bricks dedicated to Ante Pavelić, describing him only as a "doctor of laws."
Pavelić was the wartime leader of the Ustaša, the fascist organization that ran the Independent State of Croatia, a Nazi puppet regime. In this role, Pavelić was the chief perpetrator of the Holocaust in the Balkans. Approximately 32,000 Jews, 25,000 Roma and 330,000 Serbs were murdered by the regime.

The League of Ukrainian Canadians' Edmonton Branch, meanwhile, purchased five virtual bricks in honour of Roman Shukhevych — who led the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) during the Second World War and was responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Belarusians, Jews, Poles and Ukrainians.………

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada initiated a court challenge of the project, arguing that the National Capital Commission (NCC) violated its own procedures on public consultation and the rules set out in the National Capital Act. A poll from the spring of 2015 found that a majority of Canadians — including nearly two-thirds of self-identified conservatives — opposed the initial project.
A NCC spokesperson said the estimated total cost of the monument is now $7.5 million, with $6 million coming from the federal government after Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland included an additional $4 million in this spring's budget to complete the monument.………
Canadian Heritage hired Carleton University historian Michael Petrou to review those 600 names, but not the names listed on Tribute to Liberty's website or in its newsletters. Petrou told CBC News there is overlap between the list of names for the monument and the list on the website.
Petrou filed his report to the department back in the spring. He said he red-flagged the names of individuals in that list of 600 who collaborated with the Nazis or were associated with fascist organizations that were active in Eastern Europe and the Balkans during the Second World War.
Petrou said he also flagged names of individuals who could not reasonably be described as "victims of communism."
The Pathways to Liberty list seems to embrace a very broad definition of "victims of communism" that extends to other apparent victims of political violence and veterans of Cold War era conflicts.
The list on the website also includes people who don't seem to be victims of persecution by communist regimes — such as Tara Singh Hayer, a Sikh journalist and activist assassinated in Vancouver in 1998, and Jagat S. Uppal, a successful B.C. businessman who was one of the first Sikhs to attend public school in Vancouver.

[Wiesenthal Center Director Ephriam] Zuroff said he's alarmed by efforts to present wartime Nazi collaborators as anti-Communist patriots.
"From the beginning of their renewed independence, following the breakup of the Soviet Union, almost all the governments of Eastern Europe — and nationalist elements in diaspora communities — have promoted the canard of equivalency between the crimes of the Third Reich and those of Communism as part of a broader effort to distort the history of the Holocaust and the Second World War," he said.
Doubtless, this is embarrassing to the Canadian government, but Canada's history of harboring and protecting war criminals who were willing participants in the Holocaust is a lot more embarrassing.
It appears that the Canadian government want to prevent a release of a list of Nazi war criminals who were admitted to Canada post war because it might, "Prove embarrassing," to our neighbor to the north.
Given that an Ukrainian Nazi SS member was honored in parliament on live TV, I do not think that the government could be any more embarrassed, nor that they would be subject to any litigation, sovereign immunity being what it is.
What is really going on here is that it's current Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland's grandfather is arguably the most prominent Nazi war criminal admitted during that time, who did exactrly the same thing that Julius Streicher was hung for after the Nuremberg trials.
A list of 900 alleged Nazi war criminals who fled to Canada could remain secret as federal officials come under increasing pressure to censor the records because they could prove embarrassing to this country.
Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa consulted in June and July with what it called a “discrete group of individuals or organizations” about whether the list should be made public, according to documents obtained by the Ottawa Citizen.
Those consulted included members of Canada’s Ukrainian community, records show, but Library and Archives Canada, also known as LAC, did not include Holocaust survivors nor Holocaust scholars who had advocated for a full release of the list of alleged Nazi war criminals, Jewish and Holocaust academics say.
Of course they did not contact any Holocaust survivors or scholars. The reason for the consultation was to create an excuse to suppress the information, because it exposes a current senior member of the government well deserved opprobrium.
Freeland has been lying about her grandfather, Michael Chomiak, and her specific knowledge about the actions of her grandfather, for decades.
The reason that the government wants this suppressed is that either Michael Chomiak's name is on the list, or people will start asking why Michael Chomiak's name is not on the list.………
Some of the individuals and organizations consulted by LAC argued against releasing any of the information, warning it could be embarrassing or lead to prosecutions of the alleged war criminals.
“A few stakeholders were concerned that the release of the report would result in new legal action (criminal prosecution, citizen revocation, or otherwise) being brought against the individuals named in the report,” a summary of the library’s discussions noted.
Trying Nazi war criminals, and for that matter, trying ALL war criminals is a good thing, not something to be avoided.
We are not talking about people who were silent when this was happening, we are talking about people who were actively supporting and in some cases committed war crimes on behalf of the Nazis.
