I Call on the Editors of The Onion to Resign

This is not that I do not appreciate their efforts to put the world into a humorous perspective, their satire about George W. Bush as he was entering office was one for the ages, and their amicus brief to the Supreme Court in Novak v. City of Parma, Ohio is a towering achievement in both humor and the law.

Unfortunately, their hard work and not-infrequent genius does not matter.  The Onion is redundant.  It is obsolete.

Simply put, the world has outpaced their ability to parody it.

Case in point, it are indications that Elon Musk embezzled from Tesla in so that he could literally live in a glass house.

You read that right, the lamest troll on the internet wants to throw metaphorical stones from his glass house.

As Anna Russel would say, "I'm not making this up, you know."

Inside Tesla, it was known as “Project 42,” and the plans called for a dramatic glass-walled building to rise near the automaker’s headquarters outside this capital city.

Internally, the secret project was described as a house for Chief Executive Elon Musk.

One concept showed a structure in the shape of a twisted hexagon on waterfront land with Tesla’s factory in the background, according to a document reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

Other renderings depicted an expansive glass box, reminiscent of Apple’s store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, with a residential area that appeared to include bedrooms, bathrooms and a kitchen, said people familiar with the matter.

………

Along the way, the project drew scrutiny from Tesla lawyers and board members, according to people with knowledge of the situation. An order for millions of dollars in specialized glass—the type of large-format panels used on building facades—sparked concern among some employees about what the materials would be used for, some of the people said.

After that order, Tesla board members investigated whether company resources had been misused and if Musk, himself, had a role, some people with knowledge of the situation said.

………

Last year, Bloomberg reported that Tesla had been investigating the glass order internally and whether the materials were being secured for Musk’s personal use. The involvement of board members and details about Project 42 weren’t previously reported.

I know what some of you are thinking, Elon Musk owns Tesla, why can't he do this?

He could with Twitter, where he owns 100% of the firm, (we'll ignore his fiduciary responsibilities to his bond holders for the moment) but he only owns 23½% of Tesla.  It is a publicly traded company, and as such its resources are not his to do with as he sees fit.

If he did this, even if he owned 99⅞% of Tesla, it would be embezzlement.

In fact, if he owned 99.9%, it would still be against the law.
