I mean this, the start of the US invasion of Iraq:
So, after 4,500 military deaths, about 500 mercenary deaths, and a death toll of between 151,000 and 1,033,000 Iraqis. (I lean toward the latter number, excess deaths are generally more accurate statistic, and BTW, that is nearly 4% of Iraq's population)
All of this because ……… We've never really have never told the truth.
Why Bush, Cheney, Rice, Bremer, etc. have never been charged with crimes against humanity by the Hague is beyond me.
I know that these warrants would never been enforced, but at the very least they have second thoughts before traveling overseas.
The fact that they will end up dying of natural causes is an absolute travesty.
Note that despite the fact that Saddam Hussein was a despot, (apart from that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play) it was a functioning society with free education, free healthcare, and relatively low levels of violence. (Except for the murderous secret police)
It would have been possible to remove the despot and keep those other things, but Bush's team wanted to go full free market Mousketeer, which may have killed more people than the insurgency, and left a country filled with sectarian politics and sectarian violence.
US invasion ruined the country, just as it ruined Afghanistan, and created the killing fields in Cambodia, and the open slave markets in Libya, and the continuing carnage in Yemen.
Until the people that makes these decision are subjected to retributive justice, the arrogance and criminality will continue.
