First, this is morally repugnant on a level that stuns me, even when it comes from a stalwart of the Washington, DC press corps(e)
Second, the history is wrong, the consensus choice was Bob Livingston, who resigned before standing for the position because of an extramarital affair, then the child rapist Hastert got the nod because he was willing to be Republican Whip Tom Delay's fluffer.
Also, just as an aside, Bob Livingston was replaced in a special election by David Vitter, who later became a Senator, who also had a sex scandal, only that one involved diapers as well.
