Harvard University has had a lawsuit filed against it for failing to take action against anthropology professor John Comaroff for sexual harassment.
The above is probably the most positive bit of this news, because:
- He was hired by Harvard despite his behavior being an open secret.
- The "Harvard’s Title IX officer and the chair of the anthropology department urging the complainants to go to the press because Harvard’s process would not work."
- “During the process, Harvard obtained Ms. Kilburn’s private therapy records without her consent and disclosed them to Professor Comaroff.” (emphasis original)
- 73 Harvard faculty wrote a letter supporting Comaroff.
It appears that Harvard and professor John Comaroff are giving Yale and professors Amy "Tiger Mom" Chua and Jed Rubenfeld a run for their money.
This really is disgraceful, though I want to know who texted Daniel Drezner the following, "Never start a land war in
Asia, never sign a letter of support about a colleague credibly accused
of sexual misconduct." (emphasis mine)
That is an impressive level of snark.
