Unacceptable Humor

Kiss of Death, good movie with a great performance from Richard Widmark

It appears that I am not alone to express schadenfreude over Governor Greg "Super Spreader" Abbott testing positive for Covid-19.

Given that his "Excellency" has been dedicated to making the pandemic as severe as possible in Texas, I think that it is appropriate to note the irony of this development.

However, I have seen repeated references to Tommy Udo from the classic film Noir Kiss of Death when discussing this, and I feel that this is inappropriate.

In this scene, Richard Widmark playing gangster Tommy Udo, tosses an old woman confined to a wheel chair down the stairs while giggling.

Greg Abbot, is, as most of you know, a paraplegic, and the folks are making reference to Udo as a play on his conditions.

This is a bridge too far for me.

It's one thing to mock a political figure for their own self-created misfortunes, it's another to mock them for their disability.

Also, watch Kiss of Death, Widmark should have gotten an Oscar for his performance.
