Europe and North Africa Cooperating on Solar Power
The Europeans are looking at constructing solar-thermal power stations and taking the power across the Mediterranean. It's called Desertec.
Right now, the cost is seen as about twice that of coal, but this should improve over time.
If only the US had some desert areas, perhaps we could try the same thing.
