The obvious lede for tonight is the Democratic US Senate Primary between Abdul El-Sayed and Haley Stevens, this is less about the general election than it is about the internecine warfare between the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party establishment (There is no Democratic Party establishment).
The establishment is more than willing to lose the Senate seat by supporting the candidate from AIPAC (Stevens) than it is to accept El-Sayed, who supports Medicare for all and opposes Israel's actions.
For much of the large Arab and Muslim community in Michigan, I think that it is likely that they will stay home rather than vote for Stevens.
We also had some interesting news in Missouri, where Amendment 4, an attempt to hamstring voter initiatives so that they can ban abortion, lost by a 4:1 ratio, and Amendment 5, an attempt to eliminate the state income tax by raising the sales tax, failed by an even larger margin.
Additionally, Wesley Bell beat Cori Bush by a comfortable margin in a rematch of the 2024 primary, where Bell ousted Bush. (Again, another AIPAC candidate)
In terms of my disdain for AIPAC, this is not about support for the state of Israel, I remain a proud Zionist, it is rather than AIPAC and Netanyahu are clear and present dangers to the state of Israel, ones that I would consider more alarming that the possibility of a nuclear Iran.
