Did You Hear the One About the Socialist Mayor?

No, not Mamdani in New York, Katie Wilson in Seattle.

She just defeated incombent Bruce Harrell in a closely fought race.

I guess that people are sick of establishment types on both sides of the aisle.

Before a crowd of supporters and staff in the lobby of City Hall, an emotional Mayor Bruce Harrell conceded the election Thursday, marking the approaching end of this chapter in his long political career in Seattle and kicking off the formal transition to Mayor-elect Katie Wilson.

He said he spoke to Wilson on Thursday morning to congratulate her and offer assistance with her transition.

“The Wilson administration will have new ideas,” he said. “It will have a new vision. By winning the election, they have earned that right. We must listen to the young voters.”

It should be noted that her election was a part of an electoral sweep in Seattle

………

The results were all but assured after Tuesday’s ballot count, when Wilson jumped out to a more than 1,300-vote lead. They were finalized Wednesday, confirming a clean sweep for progressives in this year’s Seattle elections as three incumbents — mayor, City Council president and city attorney — have now been ousted. That swing is in sharp contrast to the 2021 and 2023 Seattle elections, in which voters cast out the city’s most left-leaning politicians.

If I had any suggestions to the new elected officials, it is to understand that entities like Amazon are the enemy, not just the opposition.

Even more important is to focus on quality of life issues, and not virtue signaling.

I do think that if the Democrats in the Senate had not caved, it is likely that Harrell would have won, but as the old saying goes, "If my grandmother had balls, she would have been my grandfather."
