It look's like the Democratic Party establishment (There is no Democratic
Party establishment) is back to negotiating with itself, and the Senate
leadership is floating a climb down on their demands outside of negotiations with the
Republicans.
They are now floating making the extension of healthcare subsidies temporary.
This isn't what they are saying in negotiation with Republicans, Republicans are refusing to negotiate seriously.
They just pre-capitulated.
Senate Democrats on Friday substantially scaled back their demand for ending the government shutdown, saying they would be willing to do so in exchange for a one-year extension of expiring health care subsidies.
But Republicans quickly rejected the offer, leaving lawmakers no closer to ending a stalemate that has shuttered the government for 38 days.
The proposal, announced by Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the minority leader, never had much hope of moving through the Republican-led Congress. Speaker Mike Johnson has refused to commit to even allowing a vote on extending the Obamacare subsidies, with many Republicans opposed to renewing the tax credits, at least without major changes.
Senator John Thune, Republican of South Dakota and the majority leader, called the idea a “nonstarter.”
Republicans just got, "Shellacked." Now is the time is to add demands.

Actually, it's not that stupid a ploy -- though the pubicans seem to see through it. A one year extension would be up, just before elelctions in 26.
