Even for the Tree of Life Synagogue terrorist Robert Bowers, who was just sentenced to death.
I will not mourn his death, but I have seen the conduct of prosecutors in Texas, where capital charges are one part leverage to get plea deals, and one part aspirations of higher political office by the district attorney or their prosecutors.
The death penalty is abusive, arbitrary, and not a deterrent to crime.
The only case that I am aware of where the death penalty actually effected the conduct of a crime was the Onion Field Murder, where a cop was shot to death because the perps (incorrectly) believed that they were facing the death penalty for kidnapping under the Little Lindbergh Law.
