I used to be a fan of the Washington, DC football franchise, but 3 months into the Dan Snyder era, after he fired years long employees with out severance, I gave up on them.
I did approve of the name change, the change from the racist moniker, not the, "Commanders," name that was chosen. It appeared to be little more than an attempt by Snyder to use the whole, "Support the troops," in an attempt to burnish his own (justifiably) tarnished reputation.
Now that they have new owners, I just wanted to say that I approve the idea that the franchise should get another name change, though the suggestion made by Paul Whittemore in the WaPo letters of, "The Hogs," does not seem to be quite right.
While undoubtedly having historical significance for the team, the front line during Washington's glory days was known as, "The Hogs," we need something a bit more forward looking. Perhaps something that is a bit more archetypal for Washington, DC.
It could be something like the, "Go Gos," for the musical genre originating in the nation's capitol, or perhaps, something similarly archetypal coming from the District.

The actual solution is to go back to Redskins, but change the logo.

I would actually go with the peanuts rather than potatoes in that case, but I think that you need to stay away from the name Redskins generally.
If you wanted to retain the logo, which is not that bad, I might go with the Anacostan or Nacotchtank name.
You could also go with Half-Smokes (a Washington delicacy), though I think that Mumbo sauce (another Washington delicacy) would be kind of silly.
