I feel compelled to give New York Times columnist David French the first ever Richard Cohen award for complete failure as a human being.
For those of you who don't remember the former Washington Post columnist, some of his greatest hits were:
- Saying that it was OK for vendors not to buzz black people into their stores.
- Sexually harassing his assistant.
- Demanding multiple black politicians explicitly disavow Farrakhan.
- Supported torture.
- Described the rape of a 13-year old as a, "Seduction," because Roman Polanski's wonderful mise-en-scène.
- Justified the cold blooded murder of Trayvon Martin.
- Was shocked to discover that slavery was bad.
- Said that interracial couples nauseate people.
And that is just a small list of Cohen's record of morally irredeemable OP/Eds, those that I could cull from my blog that had not suffered link rot.
There are so many things wrong with this OP/ED:
- He is comparing incidents in 2021, when ridership was down because of Covid restrictions, and 2022, when these measures had been abandoned.
- The belief that people should be able to kill another human being when they are unpleasant to deal with (and black, but that part is unspiken).
- Ignoring the fact that the assailant had to choke him for at least 10 minutes to kill him.
- The more general view that the homeless are not people.
What a petty evil man. No wonder he has a cushy sinecure at the New York Times.
