There are Elections Tonight

The Problem

First, and most prominently, we have elections for Governor and the General Assembly in Virginia.

In Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General, the Republicans are ahead by 3% with about 90% reporting.

I guess Terry McAuliffe's strategy of running against Donald Trump, and trying to tie his opponent, Glenn Younkin, to Donald Trump, and the hostile acquisition of Taylor Swift's early recordings did not bear fruit.

As I've said before, something, even a racist contemptible something, beats nothing.

Down ballot, it looks like Democrats may have lost the General assembly, though it is still very close.

My guess is that a lot of this is that the actions of President Manchin have demoralized Democrats and depressed Democratic Party turnout.

It's a lousy night.

In New Jersey, it's too close to call, but it looks like Democratic incumbent Philip Murphy is down 0.8% to Republican Jack Ciattarelli with about 75% reporting.  Considering the fact that Ciattarelli attempted to ban profanity in a New Jersey town early in his political career (In New Jersey, are you f%$#ing sh%$ting me?) it should not have been close. (The legislative results are unclear)

In Buffalo, New York, it appears that Democratic party hack Byron Brown, who lost the primary to Socialist India Walton, may have won through a write-in campaign in the general election, which is bad for everyone in that city except for the Democratic Party establishment (There is no Democratic Party establishment).

In Minneapolis, Minnesota, the proposal to replace the police department with a department of public safety lost by about 7%, which sucks, because they have one of the worst police departments in the nation.

About the only bright spot is in Austin, Texas, where Austin Proposition A, which would have created a statutory requirement that the police department budget be increased, was voted down by a 2:1 margin.

The initiative was pushed by the local police union, and they got a well deserved bloody nose.

All in all, it's a pretty crappy election night.

I guarantee you that the narrative that will be pushed by the mainstream media is that Joe Biden and Congressional progressives are just too left, and that we all must capitulate to the party's right wing.

Of course, if this had been a good night for the Democrats, that ALSO would be a a reason that we all must capitulate to the party's right wing.
