This is a snarkier way of asking the question that the late Bishop Shelby Spong asked many years ago, "Has religion in general and Christianity in particular degenerated to the level that it has become little more than a veil under which anger can be legitimatized?"
The answer to his question is, "In far too many cases, yes," particularly these days.
